Why people call back

Find it fast. Fix it right. Leave it clean.

The service call that matters most is the one where something isn’t working and nobody can say why. That is where Kishpaugh Electrical earns its reviews: showing up, tracing the problem to its source and explaining it in plain words before anything gets replaced.

Then the job gets done neatly, tested and cleaned up, at a price you heard before the work started.

  • 01

    Find the real cause

A reset breaker or a swapped outlet is not a fix if the problem comes back. We trace it to the source.

  • 02

    Plain-spoken pricing

Affordable is the word the company uses about itself. You hear the price up front, not at the end.

  • 03

    Safety first

Every job is done to the Indiana electrical code, with the power off and the work tested before we leave.

  • 04

    Leave it clean

Customers notice the cleanup. Drywall dust, wire scraps and old fixtures leave with us.

Local knowledge

Wired for Anderson houses.

Anderson was built by the 1880s gas boom and by General Motors, and its houses show it: tall frame homes near downtown and the West Side, and street after street of mid-century homes built for the people who worked at Delco Remy and Guide Lamp.

Those houses often have 60- or 100-amp services, two-prong outlets, cloth-covered cable in the basement and a few decades of add-ons. Inside the city, power comes from Anderson Municipal Light & Power, the city-owned utility, and the City of Anderson handles electrical permits.

Straight answers

Electrical questions, answered.

34 plain-language answers about tripping breakers, older Anderson wiring, panels, storms, generators, EV chargers and how licensing works in Indiana.

All 34 answers

What should I do if I smell burning from an outlet or the panel?

Turn off the breaker for that circuit, or the main breaker, if you can reach it safely, then call an electrician. If you see smoke or flames, get everyone out and call 911.

A burning or hot-plastic smell usually means a connection is overheating. Do not keep using the outlet or keep resetting the breaker until it has been checked.

How do I know if my home needs a panel upgrade?

Common signs are a panel with no open spaces, breakers that trip under normal use, a 60- or 100-amp service in a house with central air and electric appliances, or a panel brand with a known history of problems.

Plans to add an EV charger, hot tub, shop or addition are the other big reason. A load calculation shows whether you need a full service upgrade or just more panel space.

My house has knob-and-tube wiring. Do I have to replace it?

There is no blanket rule that it must come out, but knob-and-tube is ungrounded, often brittle after a century, and unsafe when buried in insulation. Many insurers will not cover it, so most owners replace it.

It turns up in the oldest homes around Anderson’s downtown and West Side. Replacement can be done in stages, starting with the most-used rooms.

Is whole-home surge protection worth it in central Indiana?

For most homes, yes. Central Indiana gets frequent spring and summer thunderstorms, and a surge protector installed at the panel helps protect hard-wired equipment like furnaces, appliances and HVAC controls.

It works best paired with plug-in surge protectors for TVs, computers and other sensitive electronics.

What do I need for a Level 2 EV charger at home?

A dedicated 240-volt circuit sized to the charger, commonly 40 to 60 amps, plus enough room in your panel and service to carry it. Many chargers can also be set to a lower current to fit an existing service.

An electrician checks your panel space and runs a load calculation first. If the service is tight, a load-managing charger can avoid a panel upgrade.
